The Medieval times was a period in history that occurred after the fall of the Roman Empire between the 5th and 15th century. In Early Medieval times, people saw harsh barbarian invasions, depopulation, and deurbanization. After 1000BC, the population began to increase thanks to technological advances in agriculture which allowed trade to flourish and crops yields to increase. During the late medieval period, times began to really get tough. There were famines, plague and war which diminished the population of western Europe.

The "poleaxe" is the medieval name used by the English for the long-handled footman's war hammer, regardless of whether it actually had an axe head or not.
